Chakka Appam
an tea time snack made from Jackfruit or Chakka. Koozha Chakka is used for preparation of Chakka Appam since this variety of jackfruit is soft and easy dissolving.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 2 cup Jack fruit
- 1 cup Jaggery adjust according to ur choice
- 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder
- 1/4 tsp Cumin powder — roasted
- 1/2 cup Rice flour
- 1 cup Wheat flour
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 1/4 cup Water
- Salt a pinch
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Chakka Appam, first remove the seeds from the jack fruit bulbs and chop into small pieces and set aside.
Step 2
Melt the jaggery with water in a pan. Add jackfruit pieces and mix it. Put the lid on and cook on low heat for 5-8 minutes.
Step 3
Add cardamom, cumin powder, coconut and salt. Turn off the heat.
Step 4
Add the wheat flour little by little. Then add rice flour, Stir everything together thoroughly and make it into a smooth dough. It should not be too thick or too loose.
Step 5
Transfer this mixture into a plate(brush little ghee) and steam it in a steamer for 20-25 minutes or until done.
Step 6
Delicious Chakka Appam is ready. Serve hot with tea or coffee.
Tip
The fermented batter is the heart of good appam. Give it at least 8 hours to rise — overnight is best. The slight sourness is what makes appam special.
