Cauliflower Green Peas Masala
A simple side dish that rounds out any Kerala meal. Quick to make, easy to pair, and the kind of thing that quietly makes rice and curry taste complete.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 1 nos Cauliflower Cooked
- 1/2 cup Green peas Cooked
- 2 tsp Tomato sauce
- Ghee, to taste
- Salt, to taste
- Cinnamon( ) Small piece (Karugapatta)
- 2 nos Cloves (Grambu)
- 1/2 tsp Fennel seed powder (Perinjeerakam)
- 2 nos Cardamom (Elakka)
- 1 nos Onion — chopped
- 11/2 tsp Coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
- 4 nos Garlic cloves
- 4 nos Green chillies
- Or
- 4 nos Red chillies
- 8 nos Cashewnuts
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Cauliflower Green Peas Masala, first grind together the ingredients for preparing paste into a smooth paste.
Step 2
Heat ghee in a pan or a kadai.
Step 3
Add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, fennel seed powder and cook them for a while.
Step 4
Add the above ground onion paste and give it a good stir.
Step 5
Add the cooked cauliflower and green peas followed by tomato sauce.
Step 6
Give it a good stir and take it off the heat, when done.
Step 7
You can add chilly powder if you want it to be more hot and spicy.
Step 8
Serve Cauliflower Green Peas Masala with chappathis.
Tip
Do not rush the onion and shallot frying. The difference between pale onions and properly browned onions is the difference between a flat dish and a flavourful one.
