Bread Uppuma - Leftover Recipe
Straightforward Kerala cooking — good ingredients treated well, spiced with confidence, and served without pretence. The kind of food that tastes like someone's kitchen, not a restaurant.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- Bread : 10 slices
- Ginger : 2 tsp — chopped
- Onion : 1 cup — chopped
- Green Chilli : 2 tsp — chopped
- Curry leaves : 1 stem
- Mustard : 2 tsp
- Turmeric powder : 1 tsp
- Salt, to taste
- Curry leaves : 1 or 2 stems
Preparation
Step 1
Cut the bread into small pieces as shown in above picture.
Step 2
Heat the oil.
Step 3
Put the mustard into the heated oil and allow to burst the mustard.
Step 4
Add the chopped onion and green chilli into the heated oil.
Step 5
Next, add the Curry leaves also.
Step 6
Add Turmeric Powder and salt into the mix and stir it well.
Step 7
Stir the mix till the colour of this mix turns into golden.
Step 8
Add the cut bread and stir it well and after 2-3 minutes, remove it from the stove.
Step 9
This Bread uppuma can be served as break-fast/dinner along with banana or tea/coffee.
Tip
Do not rush the onion and shallot frying. The difference between pale onions and properly browned onions is the difference between a flat dish and a flavourful one.
