Beef Ulathiyathu Easy
Beef cooked the Kerala way — with patience, a heavy hand of spices, and enough coconut oil to make the purists happy. The meat is slow-cooked until it is tender enough to fall apart, then finished with intensity.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- 1 kg Beef
- 4 nos Onions
- 1/4 tbsp Ginger — chopped
- 1/4 tbsp Garlic — chopped
- 1/4 cup Coconut flakes
- 21/2 tsp Chilly powder
- 2 tsp Coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp Garam masala powder
- 1 tsp Pepper powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Tomato sauce
- 1 tsp Soya sauce
- Salt, to taste
- Oil, to taste
- Curry leaves
- Mustard seeds
Preparation
Step 1
Clean and cut the beef into small pieces.
Step 2
Mix all the ingredients.
Step 3
Pressure cook the beef till it becomes tender.
Step 4
Pour oil into a pan and heat it or kadai.
Step 5
Add mustard seeds, curry leaves and onion and fry well.
Step 6
Add tomato sauce, soya sauce, pepper powder and cook well.
Step 7
Put the cooked beef into it and cook well till it turns to brown colour.
Tip
The coconut pieces should get slightly crispy along with the beef. They add a textural contrast that makes the dish.
