Beef Ulathiyathu
There is no shortcut to good Kerala beef. The spices are toasted, the shallots are browned, and the meat is given the time it needs to become tender and deeply flavoured.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- To Marinate
- 1/2 kg Beef
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 2 tbsp Pepper Powder
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tsp Chilly Powder — roasted
- 2 tsp Meat Masala — roasted
- 1 cup Pearl Onions — sliced
- 4 nos Garlic — crushed
- 1 Ginger
Preparation
Step 1
Wash and clean the beef and cut it into small cubes. 2) Marinate it with theitems under ''To Marinate" well and keep for 30 minutes. 3)Add very little water to the beef and pressure let it go for 2 whistles at medium heat. 4)Bring down the heat and Let it cook for 10 minutes on sim. 5)Remove the cooker from stove & allow it to cool. 6)Heat 2 tbsp of Coconut oil in a pan. 7)cook the coconut slices until they goes golden brown. 8)Add the sliced onions, few curry leaves, crushed ginger and garlic and cook well till onions turn soft. 9)Now add roasted 2 tbsp of meat masala & 2 tbsp of roasted chilly powder, little salt and sauté. 10)Add the cooked beef to it and Stir everything together thoroughly. 11)Cover and Let it cook for 10 minutes. Remove the lid and give it a good stir. 12)Continue stirring until it is completely dried up and roasted. 13)Drizzle some coconut oil as needed while stirring. 14)Check for salt.
Tip
Thin strips cook faster and develop more crispy surface area than thick cubes. Cut against the grain for tenderness.
