Beef Thoran - Kerala Style
Simple, honest, and on every Kerala lunch plate — beef thoran is coconut oil, grated coconut, and a handful of spices working quietly together. No fuss, just good food.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- 1/2 kg Beef cooked with salt and — ground
- 1 tsp Chilly powder
- Salt, to taste
- 11/2 cup Coconut — grated
- 6 nos Green chillies
- 6 Cloves Garlic
- 1 tbsp Pepper
- 1 piece Ginger small
- 1 tsp Fennel seeds (Perumjeerakam)
- 1 nos Cinnamon sticks (Karugapatta)
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp Ghee
- Curry leaves, to taste
- 5 nos Red onion
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing beef thoran, crush the ingredients: chilly powder, salt, coconut, green chillies, garlic, pepper, ginger, fennel seeds, cinnamon and turmeric powder.
Step 2
Cook the ground beef in 1 cup of water. When the water drains add the crushed ingredients to it and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 3
In a china dish fry red onion and curry leaves in ghee and add this to the beef thoran and cook well.
Step 4
Beef thoran is ready.

Tip
Shred the vegetable as fine as you can — the thinner the cuts, the better the thoran. A sharp knife makes all the difference.
