Beans Theeyal
Beans and other ingerdients are added to make beans theeyal.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 2 cup Beans — chopped
- 1/2 cup Shallots — chopped (Kunjulli)
- 4 nos Green chillies — slit
- 2 cup Coconut — grated
- 1 tsp Chilly powder
- 1 pinch Fenugreek seed powder (Uluva)
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- Tamarind juice lemon sized ball
- Salt, to taste
- 1 Spring Curry leaves
- Coconut oil, to taste
- 2 nos Dry red chillies — slit
- 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Shallots — finely chopped (Kunjulli)
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing beans theeyal, take a clay vessel and fry beans, shallots and green chillies in coconut oil and set aside.
Step 2
Fry grated coconut in the same oil till it becomes brown in color.
Step 3
Add chilly powder, fenugreek seed powder and turmeric powder to it and Stir everything together thoroughly. Take it out of the flame.
Step 4
Grind fried coconut mixture without adding water.
Step 5
In the same clay vessel add tamarind juice, salt, coconut paste, curry leaves and the fried veggies one by one and cook it by pouring required water. take it off the heat when done.
Step 6
Get another vessel, pour oil and fry the seasoning ingredients: mustard seeds, red chilly and finely chopped small onions. Pour the seasoning into above mixture.
Step 7
Beans theeyal is ready. Serve hot.
Tip
When the recipe says "medium heat," it means medium. Kerala cooking is not about high-flame drama — most of the work happens at a patient, steady temperature.
