Banana Skin - Moong Thoran
Tasty and healthy dish made out of moong and raw banana skin.
Ingredientsfor 10 servings
- 1/2 kg Skin of raw Banana
- 1/2 cup Moong
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 3 nos Green chillies
- 3 Pods Garlic
- 1/2 tsp Cumin
- 2 Spring Curry leaves
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1/2 tsp Mustard
- 4 nos Dry red chillies
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Wash and cook moong. :- The moong should be cooked well, but not get mashed.
Step 2
Drain it and set aside.
Step 3
Chop banana skin and wash it in water mixed with turmeric powder.
Step 4
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil and let the mustard seeds crackle.
Step 5
Add curry leaves, red chilli, chopped banana skin along with little turmeric powder and salt.
Step 6
Sprinkle little water over it and cover it with a lid and cook till its done.
Step 7
Grind coconut along with green chillies, garlic, cumin and turmeric powder without adding water. :- The masala should be of dry consistency.
Step 8
When the banana skin is cooked, add coconut masala and cooked moong.
Step 9
Mix it well and cover it and cook it in a low flame for about 10 minutes.
Step 10
Remove from fire and serve hot with rice.
Step 11
The dish should be dry.
Tip
Grated coconut goes in last and cooks just long enough to warm through. Overcooking makes it chewy instead of soft.
