Banana Rings
Straightforward Kerala cooking — good ingredients treated well, spiced with confidence, and served without pretence. The kind of food that tastes like someone's kitchen, not a restaurant.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 2 nos Ripe banana
- 1 cup Flour
- 2 tbsp Sugar
- Water, to taste
- Salt, to taste
- Cumin powder
Preparation
Step 1
Cut the banana in round shapes. It should not be too thin.
Step 2
Make a batter by mixing flour, sugar, salt, cumin powder and water.
Step 3
Turmeric Powder can be added if needed.
Step 4
Dip the banana pieces in this batter properly.
Step 5
Heat the oil in a shallow pan.
Step 6
Fry in hot oil the flour coated banana pieces in it.
Step 7
Remove on a tissue when both the sides are brown in colour.
Step 8
Goes well with hot tea/coffee.
Tip
When the recipe says "medium heat," it means medium. Kerala cooking is not about high-flame drama — most of the work happens at a patient, steady temperature.
