Banana Jaggery Sweet
Old-fashioned Kerala sweetmaking — no shortcuts, no substitutes. Jaggery, ghee, and coconut come together through slow cooking and patience into something far greater than the sum of their parts.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 2 piece Jaggery (Sharkkara)
- 3 tbsp Oil
- 2 nos Bananas — cut into small pieces, ripe
- Raisins(Onakka munthiri — optional
- 1/2 cup Coconut — grated
Preparation
Step 1
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil.
Step 2
Lower the heat and add the jaggery.
Step 3
Keep stiring on low heat, so that it does not burn.
Step 4
Add the banana pieces and keep stirring.
Step 5
Add the grated coconut and keep stirring, till u get the right texture. :- The heat can be increased, if needed.
Step 6
When the mixture becomes a nice dark brown colour, add the raisins.
Step 7
Get the mixture off the fire and let it cool. :- Serve with vanilla icecream.
Tip
When working with jaggery, always melt and strain it first. Even the best quality jaggery has some grit that needs to be removed.
