Banana Halwa With Coconut
Banana halwa/valai pazha halwa/Vaalai halwa is prepared by mashing bananas and mixing with sugar syrup and other ingredients.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 2 cup Ripe bananas mashed, Ethacka
- 3/4 cup Milk
- 11/2 cup Sugar
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 1/2 cup Ghee/Dalda
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing banana halwa with coconut, first fry the shredded coconut in 1 tbsp of ghee to a golden brown color. Set aside.
Step 2
Boil the sugar with some water and remove the scum that forms on top. Remove pan from fire and strain the sugar syrup.
Step 3
Convert the sugar syrup into a thick bottomed pan.
Step 4
When the syrup is cool, add the milk, mashed bananas, and remaining ghee.
Step 5
Cook the mixture in medium heat, stirring all the time.
Step 6
When the banana halwa leaves the sides of the pan, stir in fried coconut.
Step 7
Cook in low heat until the halwa gets a golden color. And ghee starts to come out.
Step 8
Transfer the banana halwa with coconut into a greased dish and serve when cool.
Tip
Ghee quality matters enormously in traditional sweets. Use homemade ghee if you can — the flavour is incomparably richer.
