Banana French Toast
A traditional preparation from Kerala that balances flavour, texture, and aroma in the way that only home cooking can. No two households make it exactly the same, and that is the point.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 8 nos Bread slices
- 2 nos Ripe banana
- 1 cup Allpurpose flour Maida
- 2 tsp Vanilla
- 2 tbsp Sugar
- 1/2 cup Milk
- Oil or butter to fry
- Powdered sugar — optional
Preparation
Step 1
In a blender, place banana, flour, sugar and vanilla.
Step 2
Blend smooth and then add enough milk to make a batter consistency.
Step 3
Dip both sides of the bread in the batter to coat evenly.
Step 4
Fry in hot oil or butter, turning once to brown each side nicely.
Step 5
Watch carefully as this tends to burn easily.
Step 6
Drain on paper towel and Serve right away.
Step 7
Dust with powdered sugar, if desired.
Tip
Grinding spices fresh makes a noticeable difference. Pre-ground powders lose their punch within weeks. Buy whole, toast lightly, and grind as you need.
