Avil Uppuma
A traditional preparation from Kerala that balances flavour, texture, and aroma in the way that only home cooking can. No two households make it exactly the same, and that is the point.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 2 cup Avil Poha/Beaten rice flakes
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- ¼ cup Coconut Oil
- 1 tsp Split black gram
- 2 nos Red Chilli — chopped
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 2 nos Green Chilli — chopped
- 2 piece Ginger — chopped
- Curry leaves, a few
- Lemon juice, a few
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil and let the mustard seeds crackle.
Step 2
Add black gram, red chilli, curry leaves and fry well.
Step 3
Add chopped ginger and green chilli and sautT in low flame.
Step 4
Wash the avil in water.
Step 5
Do not keep avil in water for longer time.
Step 6
Add the avil with the above mixture in pan.
Step 7
Add coconut, salt and give it a good stir in low flame.
Step 8
After 3 minutes, close the flame, add lemon juice and mix it well. Serve Hot!
