Aval With Ripe Banana
A traditional preparation from Kerala that balances flavour, texture, and aroma in the way that only home cooking can. No two households make it exactly the same, and that is the point.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 2 cup Aval cleaned well, Beaten rice
- 1 nos Ripe banana big one sliced into thin slices
- 1/2 cup Jaggery scrapped, Sharkara
- Salt A pinch
- 3 tsp Ghee
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing aval with ripe banana, take a pan and heat ghee. Then add beaten rice and stir for a few minutes. Let it get dry.
Step 2
Get it from the stove once it gets crispy.
Step 3
In another pan melt the jaggery.
Step 4
Put the sliced banana pieces in it.
Step 5
Cook this in low heat for a minute.
Step 6
Next, add the beaten rice and stir quickly.
Step 7
Aval with ripe banana, ideal for breakfast, is ready. Serve hot.
Step 8
Tip: You can substitute jaggery with sugar if you want. You will need about 4-5 tbsp for that. You can add nuts and any dry fruits if you want along with this. It is a very healthy breakfast recipe, especially for children.
Tip
Fresh curry leaves make a genuine difference. Dried curry leaves are a poor substitute — if you cannot get fresh ones, increase the quantity and fry them longer.
