Appam With Rice Flakes/Aval
Soft and lacey Appam With Rice Flakes / Aval is a favorite among vegetarian dishes in Kerala Cuisine. Appam is a breakfast dish that goes perfect with any curry dish of your choice.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 11/2 glass White rice (pachari)
- 11/2 glass Rice flakes aval/poha
- Water — for grinding
- Yeast a pinch
- Salt, to taste
- Sugar, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Appam With Rice Flakes/Aval, first soak rice for 5 hrs before grinding.
Step 2
Soak aval for 15 minutes before grinding.
Step 3
Grind separately with needed water.
Step 4
Add salt and yeast(dissolved in luke warm water). Mix the batter very well.
Step 5
Keep the batter for 8 hours over night.
Step 6
Next day morning you can add sugar for taste. Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 7
Make very soft and Appam With Rice Flakes/Aval in a appam chatti.
Tip
For each cup of rice, use slightly less water than usual when adding other liquid ingredients like coconut milk or stock.
