Akkini With Chicken
Akkini is a kachi dish.Akkini tastes and flavourful. Akkini can also be prepared with mutton or beef.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- 500 g Chicken — cut into medium size pieces
- 1 Onion — finely chopped
- 1 tsp Garlic / ginger paste
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Chilli powder
- 4 tbsp Bengal gram dal
- 1 Potato
- 1.5 cup Basmati rice
- Ghee 4 tbsp
- 2 Each Cloves /Cinnamon /cardamom
- 1/4 cup Yougurt
- 2-3 Water
- Coriander leaves
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Akkini, firstly marinate the cleaned chicken pieces with turmeric, chilli powder,yogurt and salt. Pressure cook the marinated chicken pieces along with onions, ginger, garlic paste,coriander leaves and one tbsp of ghee. When one whistle is done, turn off the heat. Let the pressure go down, open the lid.
Step 2
Heat 4 tbsp of oil in a pan, fry the cooked chicken pieces and set aside.
Step 3
Heat ghee in a wide pan and allow to crackle all the spices and add the washed and drained rice, fry for a minute.
Step 4
Wash and cook the bengal gram dal. Fry the potato and set aside.
Step 5
Next, add the fried chicken pieces, cooked bengal gram dal, fried potato pieces,coriander leaves and the chicken gravy to the fried rice. Add 2 -3 cups of water and more salt, if required. Put the lid on and cook on low heat till the chicken pieces and rice are mixed well and done. Check and Give it a stir now and then.
Step 6
Akkini is ready. Serve hot with raitha or dates chutney.
Tip
Bone-in chicken gives a richer, more flavourful gravy than boneless. The marrow flavours the curry as it cooks.
