A Sweet Home Made Mango Jam
Old-fashioned Kerala sweetmaking — no shortcuts, no substitutes. Jaggery, ghee, and coconut come together through slow cooking and patience into something far greater than the sum of their parts.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- Mango : 3 nos
- Sugar : 1 Cup
- Water : ½ Cup
Preparation
Step 1
In a deep pan, cook the mangoes with a little water for 4 to 5 minutes until the mangoes start breaking.
Step 2
Get this out and with the help of a spoon, press and form a paste.
Step 3

In the same pan, on a low flame, take sugar and ½ cup of water and heat until the sugar dissolves.
Step 5
Add mangoes to this and Stir everything together thoroughly. Cook till it turns out to a Jam base.
Step 6
Leave out to cool.
Step 7
Enter Step.
Step 8
Refrigerate and use with breads.
Tip
When working with jaggery, always melt and strain it first. Even the best quality jaggery has some grit that needs to be removed.
