Wheat Halwa | Kerala Red Halwa
Wheat Halwa prepared from Atta or whole wheat flour is a and melt in the mouth sweet dish, very popular in Indian Cuisine. The texture is very smooth and moist in appearance. You can add dry fruits like cashews and raisins in the halwa sweet.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Wheat flour
- 3/4 cup Sugar
- 1-2 nos Cardamom (Elakka)
- 50 g Raisins & cashew nuts
- Badam/pista — optional
- Edible red color Few drops
- 1 tbsp Ghee
- Water, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the delicious halwa dish, first heat a vessel.
Step 2
Roast the wheat flour to a brown colour & set aside.
Step 3
Fry raisins and cashews in the ghee & put aside.
Step 4
Boil the water.
Step 5
Add sugar into the water and stir till it dissolves.
Step 6
Add cardamom powder, and pour ghee in which raisins and cashew nuts were fried.
Step 7
Add roasted wheat, edible red color and stir without lumps till it becomes a halwa form.
Step 8
Serve into a greased vessel and make a square shape. Garnish with some raisins and cashews.
Tip
Ghee quality matters enormously in traditional sweets. Use homemade ghee if you can — the flavour is incomparably richer.
