Vendakka Thoran - Nadan Style
A and simple dish made from vendakka or ladies finger and cooked in style. This is a popular dish in Kerala Cuisine and it tastes perfect with hot rice for noon day meals.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 250 g Lady's finger Vendakka
- 1 cup Small onions (Kunjulli)
- Or
- 1 cup Onion — chopped
- 5 nos Green chillies
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 3 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 - Red chillies (Kollamulaku)
- Curry leaves A, a few
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the healthy side dish, wash well lady`s finger, onions and green chillies and chop them finely.
Step 2
Stir everything together thoroughly the above finely chopped items with grated coconut and salt.
Step 3
Warm the oil in a pan or a kadai.
Step 4
Let the mustard seeds crackle and cook dry red chillies and curry leaves.
Step 5
Add the vendakka mix and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 6
Put the lid on and cook for about 5 minutes.
Step 7
Remove the lid and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 8
Remove the stir fry dish from fire when it is done.
Step 9
Serve the delicious thoran with rice.
Tip
Grated coconut goes in last and cooks just long enough to warm through. Overcooking makes it chewy instead of soft.
