Vazhapindi Thoran
Banana stem and other ingredients are added to make this side dish.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 2 cup Banana stem Vazhapindi
- 1/4 cup Rice Ponni boiled
- 12 nos Dry red chilies
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 3 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tbsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tbsp Channa dal Kadala prippu
- Curry leaves A, a few
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Vazhapindi Thoran, cut the banana stem into roundels and simultaneously, loop its serum onto your fingers to discard it.
Step 2
Chop the banana stem into fine pieces.
Step 3
Cook the banana stem along with turmeric powder and salt in a covered dish.
Step 4
Set aside.
Step 5
Now take a kadai and pour 2 tbsp of oil. Allow it to heat. Add channa dal and mustard seeds.
Step 6
When mustard seeds allow to crackle add two red chilies and curry leaves.
Step 7
Stir in the cooked banana stem to it and Stir everything together thoroughly. Set aside. Let it cool for a while.
Step 8
Dry roast the rice and the balance dry red chilies.
Step 9
Dry grind it in a mixer.
Step 10
Now spread this dry roast powder on to the banana stem and one tbsp of oil over it. Mix it well.
Step 11
Vazhapindi thoran is ready. Serve as a side dish.
Step 12
Note:- You can use any boiled rice to roast.
Tip
The pan should be completely dry when you finish — no moisture should remain. That dryness is what gives thoran its characteristic texture.
