Traditional Tomato Chutney
A quick Kerala-style chutney that comes together in minutes and adds a punch of flavour to dosa, idli, or just a plate of rice and dal. Grind it coarse for texture or smooth for dipping.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Onion
- 4 Tomato
- 4 Chilly
- 1 tsp Salt
- 4 Curry leaf
- 1 cup Water
- 4 Red chilly
- 4 Curry leaf
- 1 tsp Mustard
- 1 tsp Chilli powder
Preparation
Step 1
Set a kadai over medium heat and pour in the oil add onions and Let it cook for 2 minutes.
Step 2
Add tomatoes,green chilly,and salt Let it cook for 2 minutes.
Step 3
Next, add 1/2 cup water and grind this in a mixer.
Step 4
Set a kadai on the stove heat the ground mix for 2 minutes.
Step 5
In another kadai add 1tsp oil and add mustard. When mustard allow to crackles add red chilly and curry leaf.
Step 6
Add this tempering to ground mix.Add chilly powder and let it bubble for 2 minutes.
Step 7
Now traditional tomato chutney is ready.
Tip
Let the dish rest for a few minutes after cooking. Flavours settle and meld during this time, and the texture often improves.
