Thengai Podi - Brahmin Special
Fried urad dal, fried coconut and other ingredients are mixed together and powdered.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 11/2 cup Coconut — grated
- 4 tbsp Urad dal
- 8 nos Red chillies
- Tamarind About 3/4 size of lemon
- 1 pinch Asafoetida (Kayam)
- 1 tsp Jaggery powder Sharkara
- 3 tbsp Coconut oil
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing thengai podi - brahmin special, first fry urad dal and red chillies for a few minutes in coconut oil.
Step 2
Fry grated coconut separately in coconut oil till it becomes brown in color.
Step 3
Grind the 1st and 2nd step together by adding tamarind, powdered jaggery, salt and asafoetida.
Step 4
After grinding, mix it well.
Step 5
Thengai podi - brahmin special recipe is ready. Can be used as side dish with dosa, curd rice etc.
Tip
Fresh curry leaves make a genuine difference. Dried curry leaves are a poor substitute — if you cannot get fresh ones, increase the quantity and fry them longer.
