Tasty Fried Fish Moliee
Fresh fish cooked the Kerala way — with coconut, curry leaves, and a tartness that comes from kudampuli or tamarind. Coastal Kerala cooking at its simplest and best.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 1/2 kg Fish — sliced
- 3 nos Onion — sliced
- 3 nos Tomato slices
- 11/2 tbsp Ginger — sliced
- 6 Cloves Garlic — sliced
- 4 nos Green chillies — sliced
- 2 cup Coconut milk 2nd
- 1 cup Coconut 1st
- 1 tbsp Vinegar
- 1/2 tsp Fenugreek powder
- 2 tsp Chilly powder
- 2 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- Curry leaves, a few
- Coconut oil, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Fried fish moliee, rub the fish pieces with turmeric, pinch of chilly powder and salt.
Step 2
Pan-fry the fish and set aside.
Step 3
Heat coconut oil and let the mustard seeds crackle. Add onion and fry well.
Step 4
Crush the ginger, garlic and green chillies. Add to onion and fry again.
Step 5
Add tomato and sauté.
Step 6
Add chilly powder, coriander, fenugreek, turmeric and salt.
Step 7
Add vinegar and Let it cook for 2 minutes.
Step 8
Add fish pieces and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 9
Add 2nd coconut milk and cover. Cook the fish till done.
Step 10
When done, do not mix with ladle, just turn the pan.
Step 11
Add the 1st coconut and thicken the gravy.
Step 12
Pour 1 tbsp coconut oil on top with curry leaves. Serve hot with mutta rice.
Step 13
Fried fish moliee is ready.
Tip
A clay pot gives fish curry a distinctive taste that metal pans cannot replicate. If you have a manchatti, use it.
