Tamarind - Puli Thogyal - Brahmin Special
Urad dal, red chillies, coconut and other ingredients are ground together.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 4 tbsp Urad dal/Ulundu paruppu
- 6 nos Red chillies
- Tamarind A pinch
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- Asafoetida A pinch
- 2 tsp Coconut oil
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing tamarind / puli thogyal - brahmin special, roast urad dal and red chillies for few minutes in coconut oil.
Step 2
Add grated coconut and tamarind to the roasted item and grind the mixture by sprinkling water in such a way that the mixture is in semisolid state.
Step 3
Add salt and asafoetida. Tamarind / puli thogyal - brahmin special, is ready. This is used as a side dish while molaguttal kootan is prepared.
Tip
Fresh curry leaves make a genuine difference. Dried curry leaves are a poor substitute — if you cannot get fresh ones, increase the quantity and fry them longer.
