Spicy Beef Roast
Kerala-style dry fry where beef is cooked down until all the moisture evaporates and what remains is intensely flavoured, slightly caramelised, and impossibly moreish. Best with parotta or plain rice.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 500 Beef
- 2 Onion
- 5 nos Shallots
- 1 tsp Ginger garlic
- 4 Dry red chilly
- 2 tbsp Coconut pieces
- 21/2 tsp Red chilly powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Pepper powder
- 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
- Curry leaves, a few
- Coriander leaves, a few
- 2 Teaspoon oil
Preparation
Step 1
Gather and prep all your ingredients before you begin.
Step 2
Get a pressure cooker,add beef,red chilly powder,turmeric powder,salt,curry leaves and enough water.let it go for about 5-6 whistles.
Step 3
Open the pressure cooker when cooled,put it in high flame and cook till all the water content is absorbed.set aside.
Step 4
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil and fry coconut pieces and dry red chilly for few seconds and set aside.
Step 5
Add shallots and onion in the same oil and cook until golden brown.Add crushed ginger garlic green chilly and cook until the raw smell disappears.
Step 6
Add pepper powder,garam masala,1/4 tsp turmeric powder,salt and cooked beef,Fold everything together gently and add fried coconut pieces,dry red chilly and coriander leaves.cook for another few seconds and take it off the heat.
Step 7
Spicy beef roast is ready.
Tip
Coconut oil is not optional in a Kerala fry. It adds a flavour that no other oil can replicate.
