Soya Chunks Masala Easy
A traditional preparation from Kerala that balances flavour, texture, and aroma in the way that only home cooking can. No two households make it exactly the same, and that is the point.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 100 g Soya chunks — soaked in water, meal maker
- 2 nos Onion sliced thinly, medium
- 2 nos Tomato Medium
- Ginger — finely chopped
- 6 nos Garlic pods — finely chopped
- ½ tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 tsp Coriander powder
- 2 tsp Chilly powder
- 1 tsp Garam masala powder
- 2 tbsp Coconut — grated
- 2 tbsp Cashewnuts — soaked in water
- 2 tbsp Oil
- Coriander leaves — for garnishing
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Grind together the grated coconut and the soaked cashew nuts into a paste.
Step 2
Warm the oil in a pan or a kadai.
Step 3
Add onions, ginger and garlic and sautT well.
Step 4
Add tomatoes followed by all the powders including salt and sautT.
Step 5
Turn off the heat and allow it to cool.
Step 6
Grind together the above mixture in a mixer grinder into a smooth paste.
Step 7
Heat up a pan or a kadai.
Step 8
Add the above paste along with the soya chunks and allow it to cook for about 15 minutes.
Step 9
When the soya chunks are done, add the cashew-coconut paste.
Step 10
Simmer for about 5 minutes.
Step 11
Adjust the level of salt.
Step 12
When it starts to thicken, take it off the heat.
Step 13
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Tip
Taste as you go. Recipes are guidelines — your palate is the final judge. Adjust salt, sourness, and heat to what tastes right to you.
