Pazham Puttu
Steamed layers of rice flour and coconut inside a cylindrical mould — puttu is Kerala morning fuel. It crumbles apart on the plate and soaks up kadala curry, banana, or just a spoonful of sugar and ghee.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Rice Flour 200 gm — roasted
- 2 nos Ripe Banana Nenthra Pazham
- 1/2 cup Coconut — grated
- Water, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Add required salt to rice flour and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 2
Sprinkle water on the rice flour.
Step 3
Continue adding water until u get a rigid lump when u hold a handfull of the puttu powder.
Step 4
Cut the banana into small pieces and mix it with the puttu powder.
Step 5
First put a little coconut on the botton of the puttu kutti and then put the puttu powder(with banana) in it till half of the puttu kutti is filled.
Step 6
Again, put the grated coconut on top of it and then puttu powder till the puttukuti is full.
Step 7
Put the grated coconut on the top and close the lid.
Step 8
Half fill the puttu kudam with water and heat it.
Step 9
Put the puttukutti on the top of it when steam starts coming out from the pot.
Step 10
Cook for 5 - 7 minutes.
Step 11
Serve while still hot.
Step 12
No need of any curries with this.
Tip
Do not rush the onion and shallot frying. The difference between pale onions and properly browned onions is the difference between a flat dish and a flavourful one.
