Nellikka Chammandhi
Nellikka Chammandhi or Gooseberry Chutney is rich in nutritive factors, antioxidants and minerals. Gooseberry is a rich source of Vitamin C and the uniqueness is that unlike other fruits, Gooseberry does not lose its nutrients and vitamin C on heating and boiling.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- 10 nos Ripe gooseberries Nellikka
- 2 nos Green chillies
- 1/2 " Ginger
- 4 nos Red onions (Kunjulli)
- Salt, to taste
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 1 tsp Coconut oil
- Mustard seeds A pinch
- 1 Stalk Curry leaves
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Nellikka Chammandhi, first wash the gooseberries, remove the seeds and cut into small pieces. Cook the chopped gooseberries in little water.
Step 2
Chop green chillies, ginger and red onions also into small pieces.
Step 3
Mix the cooked gooseberries with all the other ingredients, add required salt and grind without any water to a smooth paste.
Step 4
Warm the oil in a kadai or a pan.
Step 5
Add mustard seeds and when they allow to crackle, add curry leaves.
Step 6
Remove from fire and add it to the ground paste.
Step 7
Nellikka Chammandhi, a spicy, nutritious side dish is ready that goes well with a variety of dishes.
Tip
Grinding spices fresh makes a noticeable difference. Pre-ground powders lose their punch within weeks. Buy whole, toast lightly, and grind as you need.
