Naadan Parippu Thakkali Curry
A very common vegetarian dish that goes well with hot rice and even chappatis. Dal is a favorite dish with kids and very nutritious for growing up kids.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1/2 cup Dal sambar parippu
- 1 nos Onion — finely chopped
- 2 nos Tomato — chopped
- 2 tsp Red chillies — crushed
- 3 nos Green Chillies sliced in half
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- Curry leaves, a few
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 3 tsp Oil
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Naadan Parippu Thakkali Curry, cook the Dal in pressure cooker with salt and turmeric powder, upto 3 whistles. Mash it and set aside.
Step 2
Allow to crackle the mustard seeds in a frying pan in the oil.
Step 3
Add the curry leaves.
Step 4
Stir in the finely chopped onion and green chillies and cook until the colour of onion changes.
Step 5
Add the crushed chilly to this and cook for about 1 min.
Step 6
Stir in chopped tomatoes to this and cook until the oil appears on top.
Step 7
Add this to the mashed dal and add water(if there is enough water don`t add more). Bring to a gentle boil.
Step 8
Adjust the salt and chilly before it boils. take it off the heat and serve Naadan Parippu Thakkali Curry hot with rice.
Tip
The oil separating from the masala is your signal that the base is properly cooked. Do not add the main ingredient before you see those pools of oil on the surface.
