Naadan Kozhi Varutharachathu | Chicken Varutharachathu
Naadan Kozhi Varutharachathu | Chicken Varutharachathu is a non vegetarian side dish with thick spicy gravy. The aromatic roasted coconut mixture boosts the flavor of the dish making it tempting.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 1 kg Chicken
- 2 Tomato
- 3 Onion
- 2 large Potato
- 5 Green chilly
- 2 tsp Ginger garlic paste
- 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds
- 3 tbsp Coriander powder
- 3/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp Garam masala
- Coriander leaves, a few
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1 Coconut — grated
- 5 Shallots
- 5 Dry red chilly
- 1/2 tsp Fennel seeds
- 3 tbsp Oil
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the spicy aromatic dish, first Heat the oil in a pan and roast grated coconut, dry red chilly, shallots and fennel seeds until dark brown in colour. Turn off the heat, allow it to cool and grind it with little water to make a smooth fine paste.
Step 2
Heat the oil in a pressure cooker and cook onion until golden brown.
Step 3
Add tomato, green chilly, ginger garlic paste and Continue cooking for 3 to 4 minutes.
Step 4
Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, potato and Stir everything together thoroughly. Add chicken pieces and cook well.
Step 5
Add 2 1/2 cup water and cook for 3 whistles.
Step 6
When the chicken is well cooked, add ground coconut mixture, coriander leaves, curry leaves and Bring to a gentle boil. Add water if required to get the correct consistency of the curry.
Step 7
Naadan Kozhi Varutharachathu is ready to serve. Serve it with porotta, ghee rice, chapathi etc.
Tip
The binding point is everything — cook the mixture just until it holds shape when pressed. Overcooked, it turns hard; undercooked, it crumbles.
