Naadan Kappa (tapioca) Mathi (sardines) Puzhukku (
A traditional Kerala sweet snack made with care and a generous hand of ghee. The kind of thing grandmothers make for festivals and grandchildren make excuses to visit for.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- 750 G, Tapioca
- 200 g Unnikaambu
- 2 Raw banana
- 1/2 tsp Chilly powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- 4 Sardines
- 3/4 Pc, Coconut
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
- 3 Shallots
- 3 Pods Garlic
- 2 Green chilly
Preparation
Step 1
Cook the raw banana, unnikaambu, sardines, turmeric powder, chilly powder, salt and water as needed in a pressure cooker.
Step 2
Grind the coconut, cumin seeds, shallots, garlic and green chilly together to make a smooth paste.
Step 3
Mix in the tapioca and grinded coconut with the cooked banana-sardine curry. Mash it with a wooden spoon thoroughly.
Step 4
Cook it again for 5-10 minutes.
Step 5
Serve it for dinner along with kanji.
Tip
Jaggery burns easily. Melt it on low heat and always strain it to remove grit before adding it to the mixture.
