Naadan Cheera Cutlet
A traditional Kerala sweet snack made with care and a generous hand of ghee. The kind of thing grandmothers make for festivals and grandchildren make excuses to visit for.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- Spinach(red) :1 set (chopped
- Capsicum : 1 no (chopped
- Onion : 1 no (chopped
- Potato : 2 nos (cooked & mashed
- Ginger : 1 inch piece (chopped
- Garlic : 5 cloves (chopped
- Green chillies : 3 nos (chopped
- Turmeric powder : ½ tsp
- Curry leaves, a few
- Coriander leaves : few (chopped
- Garam masala : ½ tsp
- Bread crumbs, to taste
- Salt, to taste
- Oil, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Chop spinach, onion, ginger, garlic and capsicum. Cook potatoes, mash well and set aside.
Step 2
Set a kadai on the stove, heat oil. Fry onion, green chillies, garlic and ginger.
Step 3
Add capsicum, spinach, garam masala and salt. Stir everything together thoroughly.4) Remove from fire.5) Add mashed potatoes in it. 6) Stir everything together thoroughly. Make balls out of it.
Step 4
Roll it in bread crumbs and lightly press it or make desired shape.8) Fry it in oil.
Step 5
Cheera cutlet is ready. Serve hot with tomato ketchup.
Tip
Jaggery burns easily. Melt it on low heat and always strain it to remove grit before adding it to the mixture.
