Moong Dal ( Cherupayar Parippu) Vada
Sweet, rich, and deeply satisfying — this is the snack that shows up at every Kerala celebration, temple festival, and Onam Sadya. Made with jaggery, coconut, and patience.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Moong dal Vada cherupayar parippu
- 1 small Onion
- 1 small Ginger
- 3 nos Green chilly
- 7-8 nos Whole black pepper
- 1 / Turmeric powder
- Coriander leaves
- 1 tbsp Besan flour
- Oil for frying
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Soak dal for 3 hours.Drain the water completely. Grind dal with all other ingredients, add besan flour and salt, mix it well.
Step 2
Make small balls with dal mix. Wet your hands and flatten each balls with your palms.Heat the oil in a deep pan and fry the vadas on medium heat till it becomes crispy and brown colour.
Step 3
Moong dal vada is ready. Serve hot with tea or coffee.
Tip
The binding point is everything — cook the mixture just until it holds shape when pressed. Overcooked, it turns hard; undercooked, it crumbles.
