Meen Mulakittathu
A spicy fish curry prepared in an method. Preparing Meen Mulakittathu in an earthen pot enhances the flavor and taste of fish delicacies.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 250 g Fish
- 1 nos Onion chopped, big
- 1 inch Ginger chopped, Inji
- 5-6 Cloves garlic — finely chopped
- 3 tsp Red chilly powder
- 11/2 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 nos Green chilly — slit
- Kukum star — soaked in salt water, kudampuli
- 3 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- Curry leaves a few strands
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the spicy Dish, first take a pot and pour oil.
Step 2
Once the oil is hot enough, add the mustard seeds and leave it to crackle.
Step 3
Add green chilly, garlic, ginger and chopped onion to the oil.
Step 4
Cook until golden in color.
Step 5
Add turmeric powder, coriander powder and red chilly powder to it and cook well.
Step 6
Add water along with kudam puli to the mixture and boil.
Step 7
When boiling starts, add the fish pieces to it.
Step 8
Add a few curry leaves and leave it to cook with the vessel closed.
Step 9
Remove the top and check whether the fish is cooked after 15 minutes.
Step 10
Make sure that salt is perfect in the dish. Cook till done and remove from fire. If the dish is too watery, allow water to evaporate so the fish curry is thick and tasty.
Step 11
Add a few more curry leaves along with 1 tbsp of coconut oil. Delicious tangy flavored fish curry is ready and is all set to serve. Tangy flavored fish curry serves great with tapioca.
Tip
Let the curry rest for at least 15 minutes after cooking — the flavours deepen as it sits. Reheated curry almost always tastes better than fresh.
