Malabar Eathapazham Madhuracurry
Eathapazham madhuracurry is popular in malabar households. This dish is served with idiappam, appam, pathiri etc.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 25 g Split Bengal gram Kadala parippu
- 250 g Bananas ripe
- Cardamom powder A pinch (Elakka)
- 1/4 cup Sugar
- 2 cup Coconut milk 1 cup thick extraction and 1 cup thin milk
- 1/4 inch Ginger — finely chopped
- 1 nos Onion finely chopped, medium
- 1 tbsp Ghee
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing malabar eathapazham madhuracurry, remove the outer skin of the bananas and slice into thick rounds of 1/4 inch thickness.
Step 2
Soak the split Bengal gram in sufficient water and cook until done.
Step 3
Place a pan on the stove and boil the thin extraction of coconut milk. Add banana rounds and sugar. Stir lightly and Let it cook for 7 minutes.
Step 4
Lower the flame and add cooked bengal gram and cardamom powder. Add required salt and stir.
Step 5
Add the thick extraction of coconut milk and stir. Remove from fire before boiling starts.
Step 6
Place a pan on the stove and heat ghee. Fry the chopped onion and ginger till golden in color.
Step 7
Pour this into the madhuracurry and mix.
Step 8
Malabar eathapazham madhuracurry is ready and serve hot.
Tip
Let the curry rest for at least 15 minutes after cooking — the flavours deepen as it sits. Reheated curry almost always tastes better than fresh.
