Kerala Meen Curry | Traditional Styled Fish Curry
This fish, also known as Kerala Fish Curry, is a renowned dish from the southern Indian state of Kerala.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 250 g Any Fleshy fish
- 2 tbsp Chilly powder
- 1 tbsp Coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds roasted and — powdered
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 3 piece Kukum star Kudampuli
- Ginger — chopped
- 4 nos Green chillies — chopped
- Curry leaves, to taste
- Salt, to taste
- 3 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Kerala Meen Curry, first clean the fish well and cut into pieces.
Step 2
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil or a kadai.
Step 3
Let the mustard seeds crackle.
Step 4
Add ginger, green chillies and curry leaves and cook well.
Step 5
Add coriander powder, chilly powder and turmeric powder and cook well.
Step 6
Add sufficient water, salt and kukum star and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 7
Cover and allow it to boil.
Step 8
When the gravy starts to thicken, add the fish pieces and allow it to cook.
Step 9
When the fish is cooked and the gravy is thick enough, take it off the heat.
Step 10
Sprinkle the fenugreek powder on top and stir the vessel a little so that it gets spread all over the gravy.
Step 11
Do not use a ladle or spoon as there are chances of breaking the fish pieces while doing so.
Step 12
Kerala Meen Curry with rice.
Tip
For a thicker gravy, cook uncovered on medium heat for the last few minutes. For a thinner consistency, add a splash of warm water.
