Kerala Easy Onion Chutney
Ground fresh and served immediately, this chutney hits all the right notes — heat from the chillies, richness from coconut, and a sharp tang that cuts through rich curries and fried foods.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 2 nos Onion sliced lengthwise
- 4 nos Red chillies (Kollamulaku)
- 1/2 tsp Black gram (Uzhunnuparippu)
- 1/2 tsp Bengal gram (Kadalaparippu)
- 2 - Coriander leaves
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
- Salt, to taste
- 4 - Oil
- 1 cup Water
Preparation
Step 1
Pour oil into a pan and heat it or a kadai.
Step 2
Add the balck gram, Bengal gram, sliced onions, red chillies and jeera.
Step 3
Add salt.
Step 4
Continue to sauté.
Step 5
Add more oil, if it is too dry.
Step 6
Once the onions are soft and brown, put in a blender.
Step 7
Add the coriander leaves and water.
Step 8
Grind it to a fine consistency.
Step 9
Onion Chutney is ready,.
Step 10
Serve Onion Chutney with dosa or idli.
