Kaya Parippu Curry/Raw Banana Dal Curry
Raw plantains with dal are an awesome curry preparation that goes well with hot rice for noon day meals. Kaya Parippu Curry is one of the easiest and most nutritious of dishes that can be easily prepared at home.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 3 Raw banana
- 1/2 cup Dal
- 5 Bird eye chilly
- 1/2 cup Coconut
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- Curry leaves, a few
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- Water, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Kaya Parippu Curry, first peel and cube raw banana. Clean and wash Tur dal.
Step 2
Grind coconut with bird eye chilly with little water to make a fine paste.
Step 3
Add raw banana, dal, turmeric powder and salt in a pressure cooker.
Step 4
Pressure cook it with 2 cups of water for 15 minutes.
Step 5
Lightly mash the cooked banana and dal.
Step 6
Add ground coconut paste to the mashed dal-raw banana mixture and cook over low heat for 5 minutes.
Step 7
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil, let the mustard seeds crackle, toss little curry leaves and mix it with the curry.
Step 8
Kaya parippu curry is ready to serve.
Tip
Coconut oil and curry leaves at the very end, off the heat, give the curry its characteristic Kerala aroma. Never skip this final step.
