Kappa Kai Puzhukk
A home-style Kerala dish made with care and the kind of spice knowledge that comes from watching someone else cook it a hundred times. Each step matters, and the result is worth the effort.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 kg Tapioca
- 250 g Raw banana
- 1 Cup,grated Coconut
- 3 Pc Mackrel
- 3 Green chilly
- 1 Clove Garlic
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seed
- 5 Shallots
- 1/2 tsp Red chilly powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- Curry leaves
- Salt
Preparation
Step 1
Cook tapioca in water with enough turmreric powderi.
Step 2
Cook the raw banana with turmeric powder,red chily powder and salt to taste.
Step 3
When it is cooked add fish pieces and cook it again for 5 minutes.
Step 4
While it is cooking grind coconut,garlic,shallots,green chilly and cumin seed to get a fine paste.
Step 5
Mix cooked kappa with cooked raw banana and add the ground coconut.
Step 6
Mix it with a spoon,when it starts boil turn off the heat.
Step 7
Kappa kai puzhukk is ready to serve.
Tip
Coconut oil is the default cooking fat in Kerala kitchens. It adds a depth of flavour that other oils simply cannot match in these recipes.
