Kallumakkaya Roast | Mussels Roast
This banana, also known as Mussels Roast, is a classic seafood delicacy that holds a special place in Kerala cuisine.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 1/2 kg Mussels/Kallumakkai
- 2 nos Onion — chopped
- 1 nos Tomato(large — chopped
- 4 nos Green chilly — chopped
- 2 tsp Ginger garlic paste
- 3 tsp Red chilly powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 3/4 tsp Garam masala
- Coriander leaves, a few
- Curry leaves, a few
- 2 tbsp Oil
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Clean mussels/kallumakkai and marinate it in a mixture of chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt. Keep for a few minutes aside.
Step 2
Heat the oil in a vessel and fry in hot oil the mussels. Drain and set aside.
Step 3
Warm the oil in a pan and cook onion until it is golden brown.
Step 4
Add tomato, green chilly, ginger-garlic paste, curry leaves, coriander leaves and Let it cook for 5 minutes.
Step 5
Add fried mussels, garam masala powder, required salt and Let it cook for 2 minutes.
Step 6
Mussels Roast is ready to serve.
Tip
A heavy-bottomed pan or cast iron skillet gives you the best results for a proper Kerala fry. Thin pans burn the spices before the meat dries.
