Kadala Parippu Pradhaman-Chana Dal And Banana Pradhaman
The kind of payasam that appears at every Sadya and disappears first from the banana leaf. Slow-reduced milk, a touch of sweetness, and the warmth of cardamom — simple in concept, extraordinary in taste.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 1 cup Channa dal/kadala parippu
- 250 g Jaggery
- 1 Banana — optional
- 3 Cardamom — crushed
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seed
- 2 cup Water to cook Channa dal
- 21/2 cup Thin coconut milk
- 1 cup Thick coconut milk
- 10 Raisins
- 2 pinch Salt
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the Awesome dish, first take a pressure cooker and add washed Chana dal.
Step 2
Add enough water and a pinch of salt. Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles or till chana dal has cooked well.
Step 3
Mash the cooked chana dal and add chopped banana.
Step 4
Fold everything together gently.
Step 5
Add thin coconut milk and Stir everything together thoroughly with a spoon. let it go for 5 minutes.
Step 6
Melt jaggery in half cup water.
Step 7
Add thick coconut milk, melted jaggery, cardamom, powder, cumin seed powder and Stir everything together thoroughly. Bring to a gentle boil and take it off the heat. When boiling starts, remove pan from flame otherwise the dish is likely to curdle and get spoilt. This is an easy dish and even newcomers and bachelors can give a hand at the Dish.
Step 8
Dessert is ready. This is a nutritious dessert and you can mark it in your weekly menu for a healthy tomorrow.
Tip
The payasam will thicken significantly as it cools. Stop cooking when it is still slightly thinner than your target consistency.
