Kadala Masala
A traditional Kerala sweet snack made with care and a generous hand of ghee. The kind of thing grandmothers make for festivals and grandchildren make excuses to visit for.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- 11/2 cup Kadala Channa
- 1 - Onion
- 2 nos Green chillies
- 1/2" piece Ginger
- 1 nos Tomato small
- 1/2 tsp Garam masala powder
- 1 tsp Chilly powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- Oil to saute
- Coriander leaves
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Soak the channa(kadala) overnight.
Step 2
Add required water and salt and boil it in a pressure cooker.
Step 3
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil or a kadai.
Step 4
Cook all the ingredients other than tomato, coriander leaves and channa.
Step 5
Add tomatoes and cook it, stirring for a while.
Step 6
When done, add the boiled channa and Bring to a gentle boil for a minute.
Step 7
When its done too, add the finely chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot.
Tip
Jaggery burns easily. Melt it on low heat and always strain it to remove grit before adding it to the mixture.
