Kadala Curry Easy
A deeply satisfying kadala curry easy simmered slowly with freshly ground spices and coconut. The kind of gravy that thickens as it rests and rewards patience with layered, rounded flavour.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1/2 cup Kadala Black Channa
- 1/2 Of Coconut
- 1 nos Onion
- 1 Spoon Coriander powder
- 1 Spoon Chilli powder
- 1/4 Spoon Turmeric powder
- 1/2 Spoon Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
- Curry leaves, to taste
- Coconut oil, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Soak kadala in water for atleast 8 hrs and pressure cook it.
Step 2
Warm coconut oil in a pan.
Step 3
Add cumin seeds, onion and finally coconut and fry well till it turns brown.
Step 4
Add coriander powder, turmeric powder and chilli powder to it and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 5
Allow it to cool and grind it.
Step 6
Add the ground paste to kadala and cook it.
Step 7
Add required salt to taste.
Step 8
Set a pan on the stove, cook chopped onion and curry leaves in coconut oil and add to kadala.
Tip
Let the curry rest for at least 15 minutes after cooking — the flavours deepen as it sits. Reheated curry almost always tastes better than fresh.
