Jeeraka Kanji Easy

Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 250 g Basmati rice
- 1 cup Fresh grated coconut
- ½ tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 nos Garlic pods
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
- 2 nos Small onions (Kunjulli)
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Wash the rice and boil.
Step 2
Grind coconut, turmeric, garlic, cumin seeds and small onions with little water.
Step 3
Add the mixture to the boiled rice.
Step 4
Bring to a rolling boil and put off the flame.
Step 5
Add salt. Serve hot.
Tip
Grinding spices fresh makes a noticeable difference. Pre-ground powders lose their punch within weeks. Buy whole, toast lightly, and grind as you need.
