Fluffy Kerala Style Rava Upumavu-Upma
A popular breakfast dish all over South India. Prepared from semolina, this is a very able dish, very nutritious and tasty too. Upumavu or Upma is one of the easiest breakfast dishes that can be prepared when time is short.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Semolina
- 1 large Onion
- 1 tsp Ginger — chopped
- 3 nos Green chilly
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 2 tsp Urad dal
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 13/4 cup Hot water
- Salt, to taste
- 1/2 nos Carrot — chopped
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the Awesome dish, first roast rava till light golden shade and set aside.
Step 2
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil and let the mustard seeds crackle and urad dal. Then add sliced onion, chopped carrot, ginger and green chilly.
Step 3
Cook until onion become translucent.
Step 4
Next, add hot water and required salt. Allow to boil well. Add the specific quantity of hot water quoted. Otherwise upma will not come out perfect.
Step 5
When it starts boiling, lower the flame and add roasted sooji.
Step 6
Stir everything together thoroughly, close the pan and Let it cook for 2 minutes in low flame. Then turn off the heat and set aside. Do not open the pan and allow to cook for 5 more minutes.
Step 7
The delicious dish is ready. You can make the dish more nutritious by adding veggies as per choice. This will increase the nutrition factor of the dish.
Tip
Let the dish rest for a few minutes after cooking. Flavours settle and meld during this time, and the texture often improves.
