Easy Sambhar Sadam
Sambar Sadam is one of the common main course meal of South India. It is rich in nutrients as it contains lots of vegetables and lentils. Sambar is reflective of a broad and ancient tradition of lentil-based vegetable stews in southern India.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 1/4 cup Toor dal
- 1/2 cup Rice
- 5 Florets Cauliflower
- 1/2 cup Capsicum — chopped
- 1/2 cup Green peas
- 1/2 cup Carrot — thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup Onion — chopped
- 3 nos Green chillies
- 1 nos Tomato — chopped
- Coriander leaves, a few
- 2-3 nos Pearl onions/Shallots
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder fried
- 1/2 tsp Chilly powder fried
- 2 tsp Sambar powder fried
- Mustard seeds, a few
- Oil, to taste
- Dry red chillies, a few
- Curry leaves, a few
Preparation
Step 1
Cook dal and rice together in pressure cooker with required water(6 whistles). Set aside.
Step 2
Place a pan on the stove, heat oil and slightly fry onions and pearl onions.
Step 3
Add sambar powder, turmeric powder, all the veggies, required salt and tomato along with the already cooked rice and dal. Add little water and pressure cook again for 3 whistles.
Step 4
Temper with mustard seeds, red chillies and curry leaves.
Tip
Jaggery burns easily. Melt it on low heat and always strain it to remove grit before adding it to the mixture.
