Chilly Chicken In Traditional Style
Tender chicken pieces cooked in a thick, spice-heavy gravy built on caramelised shallots and coconut oil. This is the kind of Kerala chicken dish that families argue about — whose mother makes it better.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1k g Chicken
- 2 nos Onion — cut into cubes, large size
- 2" piece Ginger cut lengthwise
- 6-7 Pods Garlic cut lengthwise
- 1 nos Capsicum cut cube wise
- 3 nos Green chilly cut lengthwise
- 2 tbsp Red chilly sauce
- 2 tbsp Soya sauce
- 1 tbsp Tomato sauce
- 1 tsp Pepper powder
- 2 tsp Chilly powder
- Salt, to taste
- Water, to taste
- Oil for frying Chicken pieces
Preparation
Step 1
Cut the chicken into small pieces.
Step 2
Mix the chicken pieces with chilly powder, pepper powder, salt and set aside for minimum 30 minutes. 3)Fry the chicken pieces with capsicum and green chillies in oil and keep closed for 5 minutes till half cooked.
Step 3
When half cooked, add onion, ginger, garlic and stir. Add required amount of water for more gravy.
Step 4
Then again keep closed for 5 minutes till cooked.
Step 5
Add chilly cauce, soya sauce, tomato paste and stir and cook for another 10 minutes.
Step 6
Chilly Chicken in Traditional Style is ready!
Step 7
Serve Chilly Chicken in Traditional Style in hotwith Chapathi or Fried Rice!
Tip
Do not boil the curry hard after adding coconut milk. A gentle simmer is all you need — vigorous boiling can cause the coconut milk to split.
