Chakkakuru Kaippakka Upperi
It is an easy recipe prepared with jackfruit seeds and bittergourd. The bitterness will be less in this dish. it is the best combo with the boiled rice.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 25 nos Chakkakuru approx., Jackfruit seeds
- 2 – Kaippakka Bitter Gourd
- ¼ cup Shallots/Onion — sliced
- 1 Tspn Red Chilli Powder
- ½ Tspn Turmeric Powder
- 3 Tspns Coconut Oil
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Peel the white skin of Chakkakuru (Jackfruit seeds) and put the Chakkakuru in normal water for some time (so that the brown coloured skin can be removed easily).
Step 2
Clean the Kaippakka (Bitter gourd), remove the seeds and cut them into pieces.
Step 3
After some time take out the Chakkakuru from water and remove the brown coloured skin also with a knife.
Step 4
Then cut the Chakkakuru and Kaippakka into small pieces separately and keep them aside.
Step 5
Heat the oil in a frying pan/Cheenachatti and add the sliced Shallots/Onion into the oil.
Step 6
Add Red Chilli powder, Turmeric Powder and Salt and stir it well.
Step 7
Next, add the Chakkakuru (Jackfruit seeds) and Kaippakka (Bitter gourd) pieces and stir it further.
Step 8
Add some (1 – 2 cups) Water.
Step 9
Close the Frying pan/Cheenachatti with a Plate and allow to cook the mix properly.
Step 10
When the Chakkakuru and Kaippakka are cooked well, stir the Stir everything together thoroughly and change the Upperi into a serving plate.
Step 11
Chakkakuru, Kaippakka Upperi is ready and it can be served as a side dish for lunch/dinner.
Tip
Shred the vegetable as fine as you can — the thinner the cuts, the better the thoran. A sharp knife makes all the difference.
