Chakka Ada
A traditional Kerala sweet snack made with care and a generous hand of ghee. The kind of thing grandmothers make for festivals and grandchildren make excuses to visit for.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- Chakka Varatti about a cup and a half, Jackfruit jam
- 1 cup Raw rice soaked for an hour
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 2 nos Banana leaves – 1
Preparation
Step 1
Grind the raw rice without adding water till it resembles super fine rava.
Step 2
Add the coconut and grind again.
Step 3
Add the chakka varatti little by little and grind to a smooth paste.
Step 4
Chop the banana leaves into rectangular pieces and spread the paste over it and seal the edges firmly.
Step 5
Steam in a steamer or idli cooker for about 20 minutes. Serve hot.
Tip
Jaggery burns easily. Melt it on low heat and always strain it to remove grit before adding it to the mixture.
