Bitter Gourd Fry (Pavakkai Poriyal) Easy
Bitter Gourd Fry (Pavakkai Poriyal) is an side dish that goes perfect with hot steamed rice. Termed “pavakka” in Malayalam, Bitter Gourd Fry is a nutritious dish having several medicinal as well as health related benefits.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 1 - Bitter gourd finely chopped, Pavakka
- 1 - Onion finely chopped, big
- 1 tbsp Red chilly powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- Jaggery A little (Sharkkara)
- Curry leaves A, a few
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 2 tbsp Oil
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Heat the oil in a frying pan.
Step 2
Add mustard seeds and when they allow to crackle, add the chopped onions and fry till brown.
Step 3
Add chilly powder and coriander powder and fry till the raw smell of the masala disappears.
Step 4
Add the chopped bitter gourd and stir for sometime.
Step 5
Add a little water and allow it to boil.
Step 6
Add jaggery, curry leaves and salt and keep the pan closed.
Step 7
Allow the contents to cook and let the water evaporate.
Step 8
Add oil and fry the contents.
Step 9
Bitter Gourd Fry is ready.
Step 10
Serve Bitter Gourd Fry with rice.
